Miss Maryland USA 2004 Busted In Drug Scandal

I was driving to work this morning when I heared on the news that former miss Marylan U.S.A was busted for drug trafficking along side her boy friend and two other in their montgomery appartment. It is unbelievable how a public figure like this could involve herself in such scandal. It is not new for celebrities to find themselfs in the middle of a cross road but just that it frustrates me when these things happened. This is part of the article I found online this morning.

Montgomery County police say a former Miss Maryland is facing drug charges along with her boyfriend after a raid found drugs, ammunition and cash in their apartment. Police say Tia Shorts, who was crowned Miss Maryland USA in 2004, and her boyfriend Joey King, faces numerous drug possession and distribution charges. King also faces a firearms charge. Montgomery County police say the arrests were made after detectives witnessed drug activity at the apartment complex Tuesday night. Two others were also arrested and all four were released after posting bond. There are kids who look up to someone like her as a role model and then to find out that she is a drug dealer is a damn shame. If I was the judge they woul;d remain behind bars until their court date because the mopney that were used to billed them out are drugs money anyways. I just can't understand why so many people are getting themselves involve in the drug business. The money can be sweet but the consequences are damaging to their character are their lives. Most often you find rappers and hood boys in the drug scandal but I guess it's not anymore.
Celebrities are like ordinary people just that they are held to a higher standard than a regular person. Every thing they do ar quick to hit the air waves and create a news splash and that comes with being a celebrity. It has become popular nowadays for celebrities to get caught in the midst of drug, guns, prostitution, DUI, and a whole lot of things you wouldn't expect them to get themselves involved with. We live in a crazy sociaty where crazy things happen everyday.

  1. I heared this story on the news too and thought to myself why will she put her prestige on the line for something this crazy. This has become a constant habits of famous people these days. There need to be some tougher punishment on people like her to set an example because kids look up to them as role models and for celebrities to be caught doing or selling drugs is a shame.

  2. Its a shame that she took that route instead of promoting the good works and charity affairs that her crown stands for besides the given (beauty). She also just gave power to the issue that black folks cannot handle authoritative tasks in the eye of the public. I personally feel ashamed for her and despite her to some extend to the negativity she has drawn to the pageant. Well i guess she will have to face the consequences for her actions and "do the time"

  3. This story is news to me but it also doesn't seem very shocking to me. Many people use and sell drugs that you wouldn't even expect these days. I also think its a shame this woman when from being Miss Maryland in 2004 and now its 2009 and shes going in a totally different direction. That just goes to show you how easily people can go down a different path. Drugs and that type of life style can change a person for the worst. Hope this woman learns from this experience and gets back on the right path. Its a shame to see someone so beautiful and intelligent go down a path like this.

  5. Hearing this kind of news makes me think that why do they want to mess up their beautiful face with drugs? Why can’t use their money and their talent to spend on good things like helping themselves and poor people. They should the one teach about drugs instead of using it themselves, because there are many people who look after them and be like them. Also, why do most models do drugs, sometime I think there is no different between having money or rich and being poor? I think is good first to try things before you become rich or poplar.

  6. Why don't we start looking elsewhere for role models? There are so many fascinating people doing important things all over the place, and we pick celebrities, beauty queens, and athletes- with high expectation that they will teach our children good values.
