Traffic

For this weeks blog i would like to talk about traffic. Today i was in my car stuck in traffic and saw the cause of the jam. Traffic jams are most of the time either caused by a few old and slow drivers or caused by truck drivers trying to overtake other trucks in an uphill road. Trucks carry lots of weight and therefore have very low accelerations, so for them trying to pass other trucks in an uphill road just causes headache for other drivers who are trying to get to where they are going. if a truck is going at about 70 mph and it hits a slight uphill, it will slow to 40 mph, which is well below the speed limit of highways and many other roads. So they should just stay in their own lane, which is clearly marked 'truck lane'. I think the truck drivers know well that their vehicle is unable to maintain the speedlimit of they hit an uphill but they do it anyway just to piss the cars off, and since they know that the pissed driver in a small car is unable to do anything about it, i guess it entertains them in some way. After all they probably been driving for many hours and they would do anything to keep out of complete boredom, so messing with other truck drivers is one way around it, and messing with cars is another way for entertainment.

  2. Forgive me if I'm mistaken but im pretty sure that traffic is caused by a lot more than a mere couple of "old or slow drivers" and trucks trying to pass each other on a road. And there aren't very many places on the highway with a steep enough hill to drop a truck doing 70mph to 40mph. Traffics caused by accidents, ghost accidents, people being break happy, and people being to moronic to learn how to merge correctly. And if you were wondering what a ghost accident is, it is basically when theres almost an accident yet nothing real has happened.

  3. I have been the victim of trucks taking over the road on serveral occasions. It mainly happens to me when I'm driving through West Virginia. There is nothing more depressing than being stuck in two lane traffic as you watch two trucks compete for "Slowest driver of the morning." Don't get me started on old people. Since I love old people, all I can do is laugh when I see an older driver going 55mph in the far left lane, when the speed limit is 70mph. It cracks me up to see the older drivers that are oblivious to everything that is happening around them.

  4. I agree with Curtis Rose that a majority of traffic is caused by accidents and ghost accidents rather than truckers unable to keep up with the speed of traffic. I was a volunteer EMT for many years in the past and it amazed me how many more accidents were caused by people slowing down trying to get a good look at whatever was happening on the side of the road. By slowing down to a creeping speed in order to be nosy and the driver get a good look for what was going on, they take their eyes of the car in front of them, tend to swerve towards the direction they are looking which causes a domino effect of people not paying attention until the last one slams into car in front of them that slowed down to the turtle pace. If you’re able to still drive past it then it is not gossip worthy enough to risk your car or someone else’s car by creeping along and breaking your neck to get a good look.

  5. Most traffic in the DMV is most definitely cause by three major factors: The overlapping of many highly populated road ways (Route 29, 495, 95, 198, Route 1 etc.), the population in this area in general and accidents. Every morning traveling any where near DC is almost impossible without being delayed be traffic, because everyone is trying to get there from all over. And as a result of the heavily populated roads, an accident seems to be inevitable. However some elderly people do drive amazingly slow and the 18 wheelers do sometimes seem to be conspiring. Oh and I don't know if it's just me, but lately I've seen old people driving Camaros, Chargers, etc. and have been going like 40 mph; it is frustratingly ironic!

  6. I don't think that a majority of traffic is caused by truckers. Yes, they are a part of some traffic. But, it is not the majority of it. You have to put in the thought of timing. When certain times come around, such as, 5 o'clock there is a bunch of traffic on the roads. People are just getting off of work and trying to get home. When this happens there creates traffic because of all the cars on the road at the same time. It really is annoying to deal with. Sometimes you can't avoid the situation.

  7. if there is too many cars trying to go to work or go home, or if there is an accident then there is nothing anyone can do about it, but the truckers and the old people traffic is preventable if they just stay in their lane and not occupy all the lanes.

  8. I feel sorry to the others when I am sometimes frustrating driving and worrying they get annoyed by me.
I also sometimes drive aggressively like forcedly cutting someone annoying off, but I get sorry soon as time goes by.
The truck drivers, I believe, also don't enjoy making others embarrassed, but they only forcedly cut us off in order to drive a little bit faster. Of course, their aggressive behavior during driving is one major cause of traffic, but I can’t freely criticize them because there would be many people who curse me due to the same mistakes.
Let's just be more considerate to others.
