Drinking Age

Now a days all you see on tv or hear on the radio is accidents involving young kids drinking and driving either hitting pedistrians, cars, others things directly near the road. Resulting from this is fatal collisions. Between the ages of 18-20 all young adults drink. Many are scared to tell there parents what they are doing, so they must lie to them, and instead of staying at the place they were drinking they drive home putting everyone and everything at risk. Lowering the drinking age to 18 i wouold feel would lower death rates, collisions, and accidents for this age group in drinking and driving. Not only it wouold also create teens and parents to have a healthier relationship.
Before and after every dance, football games, parties, etc. drinking is some what involved. Many teens thinki this is the "cool" thing to do since theere not allowed to do it. Every teen wants to rebel from everything their parents say. So if it's no drinkling then they will find a way to do it. They know how to hide it and how to get away with it, but the thing they do not how to do is to use their brain and ot do it the responsible way. Instead of staying put where these kids were drinking they decide to go drive because they have to be home at a certsain time. Yes, i understand that these are young adults and to need to adhear to their responsibitlites and listen to their parents, but parents are on eof the main reason why young adults drive home from drinking. They need to be home at a certain time and they cannot lie or tell thier parents the truth. If the drinking age was lowered they could tell there parents the truth and could stay put if there was dirnking goign on which this means fewer accidents.
At the age of 18 you are allowed to fight and die for your country, but you are not allowed to have a beer or a glass of wine after work? How does this seem in the slightest bit fair. By lowering the drinbking age these youing adults can be really called "adults". So i leave you with this wwould you want your kid driving home drunk because they are not allowd to drink and have ot be home at a certain time?

  1. I don’t think it would matter if the drinking age was brought down because if you’re a teen and you want to do something you’re going do it. there are many ways for kids to get a hold of alcohol but I don’t think this goes for all kids I think that there are responsible kids that knows there limits and if they do bring the drinking age down then I think 18 has its pros and cons. 18 is around the time when kids enter college and it’s like a ritual in college to drink and I mean that means less trouble with the cops and everything but also when you bring it that low your putting alcohol in to the hands of kids who aren’t really mature and have probably a lot o f younger friends who they can provide alcohol too.

  2. the problem is that mny underage children nowadays engages into binge drinking just because it is not allow. what if alcohol was allow for teenagers but the consommation was limited then they would not much abuse of it .

  3. Like rita said, binge drinking is already a norm in colleges. Isn't this a perfect demonstration of why the age shouldn't be lowered? I know there are a lot of responsible college students out there, but there are also plenty of irresponsible ones.

It is true that underage adults can get their hands on alcohol anyway, but if the age limit is lowered we're just making it easier for them to do so and also removing a negative consequence of drinking. It would be interesting to see if the number of alcohol-related incidences among 18-21 adults increased if the age limit was lowered to 18.

However, if the limit was lowered and teens were allowed to drink at a younger ages, then perhaps they wouldn't be reckless. In fact, I think in some countries the drinking age is much lower and drinking is actually a big part of coming of age.

  4. I don't think lowering the drinking age to 18 is a bad idea. But I don't it would resolve the issue of teens driving and driving. Most kids are drinking by 18 now and even before then. So as said, it's not a bad idea. However, I feel they would still make the decision to drive while drinking, just as many adults do. In my opinion, I feel we could educate kids at a young age about the many bad consequences that come with driving under the influence, including death. I believe that it would have a big impact on a younger kid and that it would stick in their minds more the dangers of making such a bad decision.

  5. Not only would lowering the drinking age would lower death rates, I think that having no drinking age would lower them even more. In countries overseas kids are presented with alcohol at such a young age, therefore are not presented with such a rebellious act at an age near adolescence. I think that having the drinking age at 21 is absolutely ridiculous because no one has ever waited to drink until they were 21. I drink during the weekends and because my parents aren’t dumb, they tell me not to drive or get in a car with someone who has been drinking. I know that I will tell my kids the same thing because the drinking age is unrealistic and teens and parents should just communicate and understand each other.

  6. yes i agree that there should be no drinking age. one reason is because its human nature that when a person is not allowed to do anything, they want to do it and they will do it. however i still think that driving while drining will still prevent people from doing it.
