Staying Green Helps the Environment

Going green affects everyone Worldwide because it predicts the future of every living thing. There are different ways people can help save the environment. For example, buying energy saving light bulbs helps save energy, plus it is friendly to the environment. Although it’s a little more expensive than buying regular light bulbs it last longer. The energy saving bulbs uses 75% less energy, and last 10 times longer than regular incandescent bulbs. It also saves about $30 for its lifetime and pays for itself within six months. Another way we can help is by using brown paper bags instead of plastic. Every year about 500 billion to one trillion bags are being used everyday which estimate to one million bags being used every minute. Billion of these bags end up being litter every year which has a huge impact in the environment. Thousands of sea turtles whales and marine mammals are dyeing everyday because they consume too much plastics. When plastic bags are not discarded appropriately the marine mammals mistake the plastic for food so they eat the plastic. In fact plastic bags do not biodegrade they photo degrade meaning “breaking down into smaller and smaller toxic bits contaminating soil and waterways and entering the food web when animals accidentally ingest. Hybrid cars are very good for the environment because the automobiles are powered by more than one power source meaning that the car is powered by traditional gas plus electric motor or hydrogen fuel cell. According to the Geoffery Weed “Hybrid Cars Positive Effect on Environment” these cars replaces the cars that burns fossil fuel releases toxic gases into the atmosphere which is bad for the earth.

  1. I agree with this post. I think that we as a whole need to start caring a lot more about the place in which we live in. I mean for all the other crap we buy why not put that extra money on trying to do good for the environment? Yes we need to do away with this plastic bags because they are just a waste and get thrown all around and end up killing these animals.

  2. I agree 100%. I drive a hybrid car and I can feel good about doing something good for the planet. It also felt pretty good today when I put less than 10 gallons in the tank after driving 427 miles. Environmentalism meets pragmatism.

It's funny that a lot of people think that caring about the environment is just some romantic hippy fantasy, when it's really a very practical concern.

For example, honeybee populations have been in decline in the recent years. That probably seems like a boring and useless fact. You might even wonder why anyone would care. But it matters very much when you consider that honeybees are directly connected to one third of the US agricultural crop and therefore play a part in generating about $1.5 billion annually.

So you ask, how does a honeybee generate revenue like that? They are the major pollinator for crops like almonds, cherries, and soybeans.

Being good stewards of this great planet is really our most fundamental responsibility. That's not a belief, it's a fact.

  3. The problem I tend to find with the recent trend for 'going green' is that being environmentally friendly also seems to mean paying a price for doing so. If you want to be humane to animals? Sure. Buy grass-fed beef and stuff, but you're going to wind up paying an extra 2 dollar per pound for essentially your own peace of mind.

(That said, I buy grass-fed beef, I'm just pissed that it costs so much.)

And stuff like hybrids and energy efficient bulbs and the like all come with the premium initial price tag. I'd like to be more environmentally friendly, but it seems to be difficult to start when the ticket price is so high... It's getting better at least.
