Who is there to Blame?

Young teenagers these days act so grown. I remember when I was a young teen I was not exposed to half of the stuff that teens are exposed to nowadays. I work at Victoria’s Secret as a pink associate. PINK is a brand made for young girls between the ages of twelve to early adulthood. They sell loungewear, sweats, sleepwear, and bras and panties. From my experience working there I see so many girls who look like they have to be at least eleven to thirteen getting merchandise that they shouldn’t even know what it is. But whom can we blame? And it’s not like associates have the right to take freedom away from the customer as for what to purchase and what not to purchase. The first group to blame is the manufactures, because if PINK is designed for young teens than they should make panties with cheesy and dirt phrases such as “shut up and kiss me” and have motorcycles with “ride me” printed all over it. I do not think young people need to even be exposed to stuff like that. So many young girls come with friends from the ages of twelve and fifteen come to try on lingerie and think that they are so cute. I wonder if their parents knew what they come do at the malls, they would stop leaving them alone to shop. When our generation was younger we would play outside all the time: riding bikes, playing hide and seek, jump roping but in the present society we do not see many young teens doing that. Instead they are on computers chatting and socializing, watching television shows they aren’t supposed to be watching. Or are the parents to blame because they are so careless of what their children are doing?

  1. I agree with this it is media and manufactures because I have a little cousin who’s in middle school and i never wore the things or did the things she did in high school. I felt like she’s so young she would party and go out and stay out till like 2 in the morning with her friends. The type of clothes she wore was crazy and she started wearing makeup and I'm just like wow this girl is so young but she does all these things. I was also watching a documentary and these young girls in middle school were asked if they wanted to be seen as cute or sexy and most of them were like sexy. I was appalled by this answer because its like that should not know what sexy mean. Media makes such a huge impact on kids now a days its always aboutbeing skinny, showing skin and looking sexy its pretty sad.

  2. i work at an elemetnary school and the things you see these kids wearing and have are ridiculous. I do nto beleive that no child that young should have ceell phones, clothes with words they do not know what they mean or even be around. I have seen some kids with shirts of spongebob on it smoking a blunt. come on now parets. How acceptable is this like really? I completly agree that meida plays a huge role in this problem. It attracks younger and younger audiences of how to dress, what to look like, and how to act.

  3. It's really sad that these young kids feel the need to live up to ridiculous adult expectations. I'm sure they don't feel pressure and probably made these choices of their own free will, but that's only because we've created a culture that condones this kind of behavior.

Like you said, parents really need to step up and do something about this. Whether that means monitoring the TV shows or magazines their kids are exposed to or forbidding this kind of apparel until they're old enough to think independently.

  4. The media and stores allure are to blame. The way they promote sexiness into each clothing line at Victoria’s Secret make those teens who are in the stage of finding out who they are more vulnerable to these advertisements. They might say that the lines are for those young teens but the companies are just using their age to manipulate them into being who they want them to be. The puberty stage for women and men are when they are looking to and who they are and who they want to be. Influences from media and store advertisements have a lot to do with what they think is cool and plays a large part in their decisions.
